Did you know WAM produced an original documentary for the exhibition “Safer Waters: Picturing Black Recreation at Midcentury”? Edited by Wichita filmmaker Maliq Little of Leak Productions, the film explores a central Florida lake resort for Black visitors (1949–1969) through the perspectives of artist Stephen Towns and those who experienced it. Join curator Dr. Tera Lee Hedrick and editor Maliq Little as they share the story behind the documentary and Towns’ work.

WAM is thrilled to host this national touring exhibition of artworks by brothers Einar and Jamex de la Torre. “Collidoscope: de la Torre Brothers Retro-Perspective” features intricate blown-glass and mixed-media pieces inspired by Mexican folk art, pop culture, religious imagery, consumer culture, and mythology. Working with glass, resin, lenticular prints, and what they call “carefully chosen” objects, the brothers create works rich in imagery and layered with wordplay and poetic riddles.
Celebrate the opening day of “Collidoscope: de la Torre Brothers Retro-Perspective” with a vibrant performance by Wichita-based Matachines dance group La Sagrada Familia. Following the performance, artists Einar and Jamex de la Torre will share insights into their layered, visually dynamic work in both Spanish- and English-language talks.
