– The Wichita Art Museum proudly announces the opening of ANNIE LEIBOVITZ / WORK, an exhibition featuring the photographs of renowned artist Annie Leibovitz. Following its highly successful premiere at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville, Arkansas, this exhibition will make its second stop in Wichita, Kansas, from May 19 to September 1, 2024.

Over the past half-century, Annie Leibovitz has firmly secured her status as one of America’s—and the world’s—foremost portrait photographers. Her oeuvre includes iconic covers for Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, and Vogue magazines, many of which remain indelibly imprinted on the minds and imaginations of millions.

ANNIE LEIBOVITZ / WORK offers a dynamic mix of new and rarely seen photographs alongside some of Leibovitz’s most famous images. With both physical photographs and digital displays, the exhibition features portraits of public figures such as Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Dolly Parton, Cindy Sherman, LeBron James, Shonda Rhimes, and Simone Biles. It also includes probing, intimate portraits of everyday Americans.
“We’re honored to showcase the photographs of Annie Leibovitz, an artist with an extraordinary vision and legacy,” said Dr. Tera Hedrick, Curator of the Wichita Art Museum. “Annie’s photographs capture our nation’s culture, history, and people, giving us a window into the American experience. As the second museum to host this prestigious exhibition, we can’t wait to share it with our community.”
Alejo Benedetti, Curator of Contemporary Art at Crystal Bridges, describes ANNIE LEIBOVITZ / WORK as a bold re-examining of the artist’s practice. “This is Annie criss-crossing her legendary career in a deeply personal and self-reflective way in order to give a peek into her mind at work. The result is a tour de force filled to the brim with an intimacy and clarity of vision that could only come from Annie herself.”
