About this Event

Drop in for art-making with Paris Jane! Have you seen zines at the library, bookstore, or at an art fair? Zines are self-published booklets that often feature a combination of prose, drawing, collage, and comics; they have been a crucial medium for sharing ideas among people who are marginalized or underrepresented in mainstream society. Taking cues from the ways that pop artists, like Roy Lichtenstein, infused their commentary about mass media and popular culture with personal content, Wichita creative Paris Jane will guide you through telling stories about your life in a zine. After you drop in for art-making, be sure to visit Pop! Highlights from the Whitney Museum of American Art on view in WAM’s DeVore Gallery.

◆ On view in WAM’s DeVore Gallery.
◆ Free and open to the public

◆ Host: Paris Jane Cunningham

Paris “ParisJane” Cunningham is a visual artist, graphic designer, and musician from Wichita, KS. In 2015, she began creating custom grad caps and logos for her peers while in college at Prairie View A&M University, pushing her to explore more products to offer to others. ParisJaneCreates was spawned in January 2021 when Paris invited friends, family, and acquaintances to place order specially made Valentine’s Day cards. Since that time, Paris has been curator at The Kansas African American Museum and managed social media platforms and marketing for several businesses. Currently, she is a museum teacher at WAM and creates social media marketing for Network Kansas.
