About This Exhibition

Homeward to the Prairie I Come presents a powerful collection of photographs by Gordon Parks, donated to K-State in 1973. This exhibition highlights Parks’s documentary work for LIFE magazine, alongside more experimental images that reflect his deep connection to the American heartland. Through these works, Parks challenges viewers to reimagine the role of African American artists in art history, while also celebrating Black beauty and identity. With photographs spanning from the 1970s to the early 1980s, this exhibition offers a moving and thought-provoking exploration of Parks’s legacy. Homeward to the Prairie I Come is organized by the Art Bridges Foundation and the Beach Museum of Art at Kansas State University.
