About the Artwork

Richard Hunt has worked in a wide range of graphic media including lithography, serigraph, charcoal drawing, and pastel. Hunt has the ability to animate a large blank page with a few strokes of line, or, alternately, to fill that void with a dense layering of color planes and directional lines. This serigraph presents forms inspired by landscapes. In the most literal reading, these shapes and lines can be associated with the tendrils of vegetation and the overlapping silhouettes of hills.

Ignoring the sculptural or tactile possibilities of these forms, Hunt concentrated upon the optical sensation of color. He contrasted the hues and intensity of sunlight with those of a starless night. In both his graphic and sculptural designs Hunt seeks the essential structure of nature.
