About the Artwork
The young lady left home still a child; she served her apprenticeship in Cadiz, came to Madrid; won a lottery prize. Now she comes for a walk to the Prado Promenade, and hears a filthy and decrepit old woman asking her for alms; the young lady sends her away; the old woman insists. The belle turns around and finds . . . . , -who could tell? -that the beggar is her mother.
