About the Artwork

While Karfiol’s nudes show the influence of the Fauves and the melancholy figures of Picasso’s blue and rose periods, his landscapes were decidedly affected by Cйzanne. The underlying structure, the suppression of details, and the broad treatment of Scrub Pines show Karfiol’s debt to the French master.
