![Colored glass featuring the signature techniques of Italian glassmakers. The vase shades from a sapphire blue on the viewer's right to clear. Surrounding the entire surface are drapes of black glass that were applied and worked into the body of the vase when it was still in a molten state. The entire surface of the front is engraved in two types of cutting that are a specialty of the Venetians: incisor and battuto. The satin finish of the engraved front contrasts with the smooth, transparent back and allows for ever-moving three-dimensional line by viewing the drapes on the back through the diffused surface on the front.](https://wam.org//wp-content/uploads/2020/12/2004.22-1-800x1196.jpg)
