About the Artwork

Betty Dickerson earned her BA degree from the University of Kansas. She studied with B.J.O. Nordfeldt, Albert Bloch, Raymond Eastwood and Karl Mattern. She instructed art classes in drawing and painting at the Wichita Art Association, taught art extension courses for Kansas State University and a special graduate school color class for the University of Kansas.

David Salle, the young painter whose works have generated controversy and excitement in international art circles is one of the many students whom Dickerson has inspired. Salle remembers her as an important influence in his early life.

Dickerson was a portraitist and landscape artist paintings images of Kansas, New Mexico, and California. California beach scenes, where she spent her summers for many years, are also favorite subjects.
