About the Artwork

“In Gujarat [India], we have an expression that says you cannot use color in a big spot, you have to use very small dots,” states Natvar Bhavsar. Whether the canvas is large or small, Bhavsar creates his paintings by scattering particles of powdered pigment over a prepared surface. The artist believes that even these tiny flecks of color have an immense presence. He notes, “Color has so much expansiveness—even within a drop—that using enormous amounts is not necessary to understanding it.”
