Sketching in the Galleries

Bring your sketchbook and pencils—or borrow ours—and draw inspiration from WAM’s collection during this free, drop-in program led by artist Karis Hawley.

Supplies will be provided. Gallery stools provided. If you prefer to bring your own, please keep it simple with pencils and small, lap-sized sketchpads to help protect the artworks.

About the host:
Karis Hawley is a local artist and resident of Wichita for over 30 years. She believes that curiosity and a commitment to lifelong learning are the foundations of any artistic practice, regardless of medium. Her own artistic journey spans ballpoint pen drawing, graphic design, acrylic painting, muraling, and other forms of creative expression such as dance. Through these varied forms, Karis uses her work as a means of personal growth, building confidence, and embracing imperfection. For her, every mistake is an opportunity to learn and evolve. Driven by a passion for encouraging others to step out of their comfort zones, Karis strives to empower people to try new things and discover the beauty in imperfection. To her, art is more than just a medium—it is a powerful tool for connection, exploration, and transformation.
