K-college teachers, as a special toast to you at the Pop Up Party for Past & Present, have a drink ticket on us and unwind with just-for-educators artmaking led by painter Emily Nickel, WAM’s School Programs Specialist. See this fall’s featured exhibition—what the party’s all about!—Past & Present: Celebrating New Acquisitions and Collection Highlights at the Wichita Art Museum, connect with fellow educators, and learn about teaching and professional development resources at WAM.
About WAM Nights: We’re open late on Fridays until 9 pm. Start your weekend with after-hours access to the galleries, shopping in the Museum Store, and a stop at EAT for dinner and specialty drinks. WAM Nights feature programs with artists, musicians, and performers, offering a dynamic way to experience the museum. The building comes to life with local creatives during WAM Nights—an energizing, creative start to your weekend. WAM Nights are generously supported by Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program.

About Emily Nickel
Emily received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in art education from the University of Kansas. While at KU, she found a passion in working with oil paint and continues to professionally practice this medium through participation in art weekends and commission work. While painting is Emily’s personal focus, she enjoys teaching exploration practices for all mediums of art. Emily spent 8 years teaching elementary art in the Park Hill School District in Kansas City. Then, a move in 2024 brought her back to her hometown of Wichita. Emily began working with WAM as a museum educator in 2024 and is now working full-time as the School Programs Specialist. The years, and various settings Emily has worked in as an educator have further emboldened her excitement for the arts. Through both her personal art endeavors and teaching practices she wants to be an advocate for the arts, instilling an admiration and excitement for the process of creating.
