Derby High School students and teachers joined representatives from Bank of America and the Wichita Art Museum for a guided tour celebrating a new $50,000 grant from Bank of America supporting WAM’s school programs.

WICHITA, KS – November 7, 2025 – The Wichita Art Museum (WAM) received a $50,000 grant from Bank of America to support the community engagement programming of the museum, including educational tours offered to local schools and students. With the grant, WAM is able to expand offerings of free tours of their permanent and ticketed exhibits for students. The programs will connect the arts to the classroom for students while offering professional development for educators. “We’re thrilled to receive this support from Bank of America to help us increase our reach to area students and strengthen our programs for educators,” said Amy Hughey, Director of Development, Wichita Art Museum.

WAM offers free tours of our permanent collection and ticketed exhibitions for students kindergarten through high school, including reimbursement of bus fees. These tours, led by professional museum teachers and highly trained volunteer docents, make the museum available as a resource for educators. The tours draw connections to classroom curricula as they foster close looking, creative and critical thinking, and social-emotional learning. For students, school programs encourage young people to see the museum as a welcoming space for them to be curious, express themselves, and belong. WAM also offers robust professional development for teachers including in-services, networking events, and free access to ticketed exhibitions to help connect the museum’s collection with area classrooms. “Partnering with the Wichita Art Museum is a creative way for Bank of America to support the museum’s mission of connecting people, ideas, and art through their unique experiences,” said Shawn Lancelot, President, Bank of America Wichita. “Our support will contribute to the museum’s public engagement and educational tour offerings, highlighting our commitment to supporting education access and community engagement.”

Part of how Bank of America delivers responsible growth is by supporting a wide range of local and global nonprofit organizations with funding and programming to drive engagement, promote cultural understanding and make the arts more accessible and inclusive in the communities the serves. “The support from Bank of America allows WAM to work with more teachers and school groups in the area and expand our reach to additional districts. This ability to bring art education to students in the region is vital to our mission,” said Molly McFerson, Director/ CEO, Wichita Art Museum.
