About the Artwork
The two floral forms on this quilt are both stylized renditions of the tulip. Charlotte de la Tour’s 1818 text Le Language des Fleurs (The Language of Flowers) asserted that tulips symbolized the declaration of love. It is likely that this quilt was made for a bridal trousseau or as a wedding gift.
