About the Artwork
Connett spent many years in Wichita making art and giving her talents to the city’s educational, civic and religious organizations. She taught at Jardine Junior High and at Campus High School before joining the art faculty at Friends in 1966. Early in her teaching career Connett worked with the Upward Bound program for under-privileged children and coordinated the development of a tutorial program for junior and senior high school students in Wichita Kansas’s Oaklawn district.
Connett’s enthusiasm for helping young people has been matched by her desire to make Wichita beautiful. She was a charter member of the Wichita Arts Council, has served on city appointed committees to select sculpture for public sites, been president of the Wichita Artists Guild and president of the Historic Preservation Landmark Board.
Connett’s formal art training includes degrees from Kansas State University and Wichita State University. She has also pursued art studies in Italy, Mexico and Greece. Printmaking is her chosen artform and Connett has explored all facets of the art from the ancient techniques of the woodcut and handmade paper to modern photomechanical processes.
