About the Artwork

Prairie Print Maker Reed is most famous for his aquatints. Born in Indiana, Reed studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. In 1924, he moved to Stillwater to teach at Oklahoma State University, where he championed printmaking in the region. Like many of his contemporaries, Reed was a member of various printmaking clubs around the country. In addition to the Prairie Print Makers, Reed was a member of the California Printmakers Society and Chicago Society of Etchers. His passion for the human figure and nature—particularly the American Southwest—is reflected in his prints and paintings.
