Alex Katz: Theater and Dance is nothing less than a showstopper at WAM. Performing arts and visual arts come together in this exhibition, the first comprehensive exploration of Katz’s collaborations with choreographers, dancers, and avant-garde theater ensembles over six decades. Organized by the American Federation for Arts and the Colby College Museum of Art, it features rare archival materials, major sets and paintings, and previously unexhibited sketches from more than two dozen productions.
The exhibition spotlights 16 productions created with choreographer Paul Taylor, exploring a partnership that shaped postmodern dance of the 20th century and revealing crossovers between Katz’s studio and the stage.
