About this Event

Celebrate Asian creatives in our community during this program presented in partnership with Wichita Asian Association. The program will begin with a tai chi performance with Michael Xie, followed by a panel discussion with local creatives moderated by Sonalli Kurlekar, President of the Wichita Asian Association. Panelists include cellist Kylie Brown, dance artist Mina Estrada, and film producer Lela Meadow-Conner.



About the panel:

 

Sonalli Kurlekar
President, Wichita Asian Association, Sonalli Kurlekar is an Infectious Disease epidemiologist and public health professional as well as a cultural producer, passionate advocate for community engagement, a trained Kathak (Indian classical dance) dancer, and mother of two young girls.

Kylie Brown
KylieB is a queer, Korean Kansan who cultivates creative communities. She is the Digital Director for mamafilm, the podcast editor for rePROfilm, and a cellist with 20 years of experience playing and recording with musicians all over the US.

Mina Estrada
Dance artist Mina Estrada is the Program Director of Dance at Wichita State University as well as Assistant Professor of Performing Arts – Contemporary Dance. Additionally, she is the Managing Director of Harvester Arts, a nonprofit arts organization fostering opportunities for creatives in Wichita. Mina makes community building a priority with Smack Dab Dance Lab, which creates opportunities for local choreographers and dancers to experiment, play, commune, and share their work.

Lela Meadow-Conner
Lela Meadow-Conner is a Creative Producer and Founder of mama.film – championing storytellers through a maternal gaze. She has 20 years of experience in independent cinema exhibition, is a co-founder of Tallgrass Film Festival and rePROFilm, has served as Executive Director of Film Festival Alliance and is currently Board Chair of Art House Convergence. Her filmmaking credits include Chasing Chasing Amy (Tribeca, 2023), the 2023 Academy-qualifying short film Run Amok, and The Spice Poet, currently in development with Priyanka Chopra’s Purple Pebble Pictures.
