Artist Rory Erler Wakemup (Minnesota Chippewa)

Meet artist-activist Rory Erler Wakemup (Minnesota Chippewa) whose artwork “Glass Eagle Feather #5” is on view in Clearly Indigenous: Native Visions Reimagined in Glass.

Wakemup is a multidisciplinary artist whose work turns the script of cultural appropriation on its head. He has morphed his experience in Indian ceremonies with his studio art practice and has become a conduit between conceptual ideas and the materials at hand. Wakemup received his MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2015 where he received the Chazen Museum Prize and exhibited Kill the Idiot Save the Fan. Since 2015 he has dedicated his art practice to community engagement for social justice.

Visit the exhibition afterward to see Wakemup’s artworks in person.
