About this Event

Be the first to experience “Abstract Expressionists: The Women” as it opens to the public at WAM. Abstract Expressionism—born in the 1940s and 1950s and recognized as the first global American art style—features vast, colorful canvases filled with abstract shapes and forms. While the story of Abstract Expressionism has often centered on larger-than-life figures like Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, women artists were ambitious innovators in their own right, shaping the very foundations of the movement.

With more than 40 canvases by 30 women—including Grace Hartigan, Helen Frankenthaler, Lee Krasner, and Elaine de Kooning—this exhibition brings to Wichita some of the most important women artists of any century.
