Who is John Steuart Curry?

A mature corn stalk stands in front of a field of corn.

Curry (1897-1946) is an American painter noted for depicting life in his home state of Kansas. Along with Thomas Hart Benton and Grant Wood, he is hailed as one of the three leading painters of American Regionalism of the 1930s and 1940s. Notably, Curry’s 1933 Kansas Cornfield is the first artwork acquired for WAM’s prized Roland P. Murdock Collection.
