La Cathйdrale de Reims—Transept, about 1915

Wichita Art Museum, C.A. Seward Memorial Collection

Though it is common for us to be familiar with the outer faзade of La Cathйdrale de Reims in France, Orr gives us a look into the architectural feats that the interior holds.

The transept is a unique portion of a traditional church style. This refers to the area in which the main body of the church is intersected by another portion, creating the ever-present cross shape that we see as the design for many churches over the years. Orr gives creates an image of the church from the transept forward. We get a taste of the unique gothic elements that became such a figurehead of style throughout the 1900s. We are shown the intricacies of the rose window at the front and the archways that lead the eye up to the heavens. Orr provides a simple snapshot of the elements that make this gothic style so memorable and prestigious.
