Wichita, KS — The Wichita Art Museum is proud to announce the opening of Anila Quayyum Agha: Interwoven, a compelling exhibition that surveys two decades of Agha’s cross-disciplinary career, including sculpture, installation, embroidery, painting, and drawing. On view from January 25 through April 20, 2025, this exhibition invites visitors to explore Agha’s poignant reflections on the immigrant experience and the complexities of gender and cultural identity.
Through drawing, painting, and large-scale installations, Agha highlights the lived experiences of women in patriarchal societies and the emotional and psychological effects of the immigrant experience. Her work emphasizes inclusion, encouraging a broader dialogue about identity, belonging, and the importance of understanding diverse perspectives.
Anila Quayyum Agha: Interwoven includes nearly 50 pieces drawn from major public and private collections, showcasing the thematic pillars of Agha’s work—belonging, wonder, and the immigrant experience. These works invite viewers to reflect on the powerful narratives of resilience and transformation that Agha brings to life through both intricate artistry and powerful storytelling.
Born in Lahore, Pakistan, in 1965, Anila Quayyum Agha’s experiences living between different faiths and cultures, along with her journey as an immigrant, have deeply shaped her creative expression. In 2014, her installation Intersections won both the Public Vote Grand Prize and the Juried Grand Prize at ArtPrize, marking a historic moment as the first time in the competition’s history that two Grand Prizes were awarded in a tie.
