WAM's Photography Policy

Wichita Art Museum Photography/Videography Policy

We are delighted that you are considering the Wichita Art Museum as the location for your photos and/or videos! Photography is allowed and encouraged, but there are some rules to follow.

Staged photography and videography (over three people), with or without a hired professional photographer, is not permitted without prior approval in the Wichita Art Museum’s galleries or exhibition areas during normal business hours.

Visitors are welcome to photograph in the museum’s Boeing Foyer and the S. Jim and Darla Farha Great Hall, provided the photography is for personal use only and not for commercial reproduction. Moving furniture and use of the piano is not allowed. While taking photos, please do not restrict access to the entrance/exits, pathways, stairways, and areas around the elevators. If these areas do become restricted, then you may be asked to leave for safety reasons.

Photography is strictly prohibited during events, whether in the setup, tear-down stage, or currently underway.

The use of flash, tripods, and other equipment in the museum galleries requires pre-approval. Group photographs of three or more people also require pre-approval. Such requests should be made in advance so a security escort can be arranged. Inquire at the Welcome Desk for photography forms or download WAM’s Photography Request Form.

Photography request forms may be submitted via:
Email: hoch@wam.org
Mail: Photography Requests, Wichita Art Museum, 1400 W. Museum Blvd., Wichita, KS 67203

Approval is determined on a case-by-case basis and appointments are set according to staff availability.

Members of the media who want to photograph museum exhibitions or events should make prior arrangements with the museum’s public relations manager at 316-268-4985 or pr@wam.org.

Some Friendly Reminders:

We encourage you to visit the outdoor Wichita Art Museum Art Garden in advance at your leisure to scout locations for your photography/videography session. We ask all guests to help protect our natural areas by staying out of the planting beds. The Wichita Art Museum reserves the right to refuse admittance for photography/videography, and/or to change its photo policy without advance notice. In addition, the Wichita Art Museum’s Security team may interrupt or restrict access at any time.
