Internet Access and Acceptable Use WiFi Policy

The Wichita Art Museum provides Internet access at no charge in selected areas for guests with portable computers or devices capable of receiving wireless signals. Guests are expected to use the wireless access in a legal and responsible manner. By using this wireless access Public Network, the user acknowledges that he/she is subject to and agrees to abide by all laws and all state and federal rules and regulations for Internet use.

The Wichita Art Museum complies with state and federal laws with a particular awareness of Kansas laws relating to obscenity (K.S.A. 2012 Supp. 21-6401, K.S.A. 2012 Supp. 21-6402 and amendments thereto) and federal laws on copyright (U.S. Code, Title 17). The Wichita Art Museum cannot be held responsible for prohibited information that might be displayed.

Terms and Conditions of Use

The Internet connects users to resources outside of the museum. The Wichita Art Museum assumes no responsibility for the safety of personal equipment. Restriction of a minor’s access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian. Parents are encouraged to monitor and supervise their children’s access to and use of the Internet while at WAM.

Examples of inappropriate use include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Displaying or disseminating images containing gratuitous violence or obscenity as defined by Kansas law.
• Disclosure, use, or dissemination of personal information that could threaten the safety or security of a minor, or any other person.
• Attempting unauthorized access to restricted or confidential systems.
• Tampering with museum’s computer hardware or software.
• Violation of software license agreements and copyright laws.
• Violation of another user’s privacy.
• Any illegal activity, unethical misrepresentation, or any form of harassment

Illegal acts involving Wichita Art Museum resources may also subject a user to prosecution by local, state, or federal authorities.

Users are cautioned not to download large files, and continuous use of the WiFi Public Network over extended periods of time is not allowed.

Security Considerations

Wireless access is by nature an insecure medium. As with most guest wireless networks, any information being sent or received over the wireless Wichita Art Museum Public Network could potentially be intercepted by another wireless user. Cautious and informed wireless users should not transmit their credit card information, passwords, and any other sensitive personal information while using a wireless “hot spot.”

Anyone using the wireless Wichita Art Museum Public Network is forewarned that there can be no expectation of privacy when using the wireless network. Users assume all associated risks and agree to hold harmless the City of Wichita and Wichita Art Museum Inc., its Board of Directors, its agents, and employees, and its representatives for any personal information (e.g. credit card) that is compromised, or for any damage caused to users’ hardware or software due to electric surges, security issues or consequences caused by viruses or hacking. All wireless Public Network users should have up-to-date virus protection on their personal laptop computers or wireless devices, as well as staying up to date with applicable operating system security patches.

The Wichita Art Museum has no control over computer programs available through the Internet. Any loss of data, damage, or liability that may occur from customer use of programs obtained through Internet access is not the responsibility of the Wichita Art Museum.
